North Carolina Rocks
by stitched on

We had a great weekend in North Carolina! Stitched was accepted into the Charlotte Film Festival today.

We had great screenings at the Nasher Art Film Festival and the Center for Documentary Studies, both on Duke University's campus.
The film was also shown twice at the Thimble Pleasure quilt shop in Chapel Hill. Owner Julie pulled out all the stops at the screenings with refreshments for her enthusiastic customers.
The Southern Documentary Fund also arranged screenings in Chapel Hill and Durham.
A huge thanks to Hollis and Reynald Chatelain for their hospitality. Hollis made me some delicious pancakes filled with fresh blueberries.  Blog

2011, a great year!
by stitched on

It was a great year thanks to all of you. It's amazing to have such wonderful friends, family and fans. We had a great kickoff in Cincinnati with the world premiere and went on to tour the nation with shows in Kentucky, Texas, California, Tennessee, Illinois, New York, New Jersey, Louisiana, Maryland, Washington and DC.

Thanks to all of you who attended the screenings, bought the DVD and spread the gospel of of Stitched via email, blogs and articles. Meg Cox, Jake Finch, Lisa Marie Gomez and Sheila Frampton Cooper were amazing at helping to promote the film.
Thanks to Randall Cook, Hollis Chatelain and Caryl Bryer Fallert for agreeing to be a part of the film and supporting it.
Thanks to all of you for housing me during my U.S. tour in 2011 -- Les & Amy in DC, Katherine B. in Seattle, our cousin Maria in New Jersey and all of the quilters! Hope these crazy filmmakers didn't destroy your casas too much.
Thanks to the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, National Museum of Mexican American Art, Bellevue Art Museum and the Newark Museum for giving us some street cred.
Thanks to those of you who helped organize screenings in your communities and who handed out Stitched postcards -- that was a lot of you!
Thanks to those of you who helped us at film festivals -- especially you Tamsyn!

Thank you quilters
by stitched on

For the past eight months, we've taken Stitched on the road. From Cincinnati to Paducah to Long Beach to Houston and lots of stops in between.

Thank you to all of the quilters and friends who housed us, fed us, picked me up at airports, attended our shows, blogged about the film and bought the DVDs and t-shirts to prove it.
Today was my last show of the year. I'm happy to be home but sad that I won't be entertained by my quilting buddies for a few months.
Happy Holidays and Happy Quilting.

Stitching more success
by stitched on

Stitched won its first film festival award! It was named audience favorite at the Rivers Edge International Film Festival in Paducah, KY. Thank you Paducah for continuing to support Stitched!

The Stretching for Quilters featuring Randall Cook DVD did was sold out in one week at the International Quilt Festival in Houston. We spent five days at the quilt festival and ran into so many old and new friends.
And the festivities didn't end there. On Monday night, we had a great show at the Bugle Boy theater in La Grange. Blog

Quilt show winners
by stitched on

We attended the International Quilt Association awards show tonight and saw some beautiful quilts.

The Best of Show winner was Sue McCarty for her quilt, Harmony Within. She also won Best of Show in Paducah last year with her Tribute to Tolkien quilt. That quilt also won a major cash prize in Houston last year.

Two artists featured in Stitched also won prizes tonight.

Caryl Bryer Fallert won first place in the Art - People, Portraits and Figures category for her quilt Checks & Balances. Randall Cook's Fractured Self won and honorable mention in the Painted Surface category. Here's a look at that quilt.

Have some coffee while you quilt
by stitched on

There's so much to say today.

Tom and Jena worked on this video at Ben's Beans, a new coffee shop on Dallas in downtown Houston. We wanted to show quilters a little slice of our city.
We also received our copy of the premiere issue of Fiber Art Now and it had a three-page spread on Stitched.
Tomorrow night, we head to the International Quilt Festival awards night to see who won this year's prizes.
And the East Lansing Film Festival added a second screening of Stitched. It will be at 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 15 at Celebration Cinemas.
